What is Vegetarianism



  • Vegetarianism is the belief in and practice of eating vegetable foods and abstaining from animal food. Vegetarian diets exclude all meat, poultry, and fish and are based on plant foods. Most vegetarians include dairy products and eggs in their diet; this type of diet is sometimes described as lacto-ovo-vegetarian whereas vegetarians who exclude all animal foods from their diet are termed vegans.

  • The reasons for choosing vegetarianism may be varies can be related to morality, religion, culture, ethics, aesthetics, environment, society, economy, politics, taste,or health.

  • In reality the definition can varies, what it refers to is a strict vegetarian or a vegan. There are different types of vegetarians.


The Benefits of Vegetarianism
  • Vegetarianism is the voluntary abstinence from eating meat. Vegetarianism is increasing day by day because its recommended as a dietary therapy for a variety of conditions, including heart disease, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, and stroke.

  • Vegetarianism is a major dietary therapy in the alternative treatment of cancer. Vegetarians often report higher energy levels, better digestion, and mental clarity. Vegetarianism is an economical and easily implemented preventative practice as well.

  • People who consume a vegetarian diet are known to have a reduced incidence of chronic degenerative diseases including coronary artery disease, hypertension, (high blood pressure), diabetes, obesity and some forms of cancer.

Future of vegetarian food

  • Most of vegetarians are people who have know that to contribute towards a more peaceful life we should solve the problem of violence first in our own hearts. Vegetarianism is an important step towards a peaceful society, and people who take the time to consider this advantages, will help to create a peaceful society.

  • As the time passes by people are turning to vegetarian food due to many reason like: health, religious, economical and ethnicity. It has been medically proven that vegetarian food reduces cholesterol and thus prevent heart problem.

  • As people are turning health conscious there is an increase in demand of vegetarian food. Rapidly opening of new vegetarian restaurant and new salad bar is clearly justifying the demand of growing vegetarian food.

  • Now-a-days even in school they have adopted vegetarian food for the children as they provide nutrition and energy with is required by the children.


  • There has been constant immigration of different people from all over the world, thus bringing their own cooking style and food trends. In the near future there will be more immigration and thus people will be bringing their own style of vegetarian food and herbs.

  • Now-a-days fast food restaurant and eating out is new fashion, even fast food restaurant are introducing new vegetarian food and salad this is due to healthy eating.

  • Diseases like mad cow and bird flu have cause disaster in the past. These diseases have caused
    deaths of hundred of people. In future we can say that people will learn from their mistake that were made in the past, people will change their dietary structure and move toward vegetarian food and it is more healthier and less chances of getting disease.

  • This shows vegetarian food has good future ahead and sooner or later people are changing their
    dietary structure as healthy eating is the new trend.



Importance of Organic food 


  • Organic food is also very important in today life. Organic food is grown without use of any
    chemical or fertilizer which artificially enhances the quality of food. In future people will lay more emphasises on organic food as organic food contain almost 50% more minerals and vitamins and artificially grown food. Government might establish agency which will buy organic food from farmer and sell it to consumer.

  • In future vegetarian food is bound to increase. Awareness of healthy food is increasing in
    people due to government research, advertisement, newspaper and television. Vegetarian food shows great promise.

  • Development of organic food increased the sales of vegetarian food.Even now-a-days school
    are running vegetarian program as they provide organic vegetarian food to the kids which provides them with all the energy they require.


Balanced diet

  • A balance diet is very important to healthy body. A balance diet can be achieved by eating right amount in right quantity. No one can achieve balance diet from eating one kind of food. Food provides nutrition for the development of body tissue, mussels and help in normal body growth. A diet which includes a variety of different foods is most likely to provide all the essential nutrients.
  • A balanced diet contains sufficient amounts of fibre and the various nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals) to ensure good health. Fruits and vegetables are natural source of energy. Fruits and vegetables are part of well balanced and healthy eating plan.

  • A vegetarian diet has many well-documented health benefits. It has been shown that vegetarians have a higher life expectancy, as much as several years, than those who eat a meat-centered diet





  • Vegetarians should be aware of getting complete protein in their diets. A complete protein contains all of the essential amino acids, which are the building blocks for protein essential to the diet because the body cannot make them. Meat and dairy products generally contain complete proteins, but most vegetarian foods such as grains and legumes contain incomplete proteins, lacking one or more of the essential amino acids. However, vegetarians can easily overcome this by combining particular foods in order to create complete proteins.

  • Getting enough vitamin B12 may be an issue for some vegetarians, particularly vegans, because
    meat and dairy products are the main sources. Vitamin supplements that contain vitamin B12 are recommended.
